Due to the recent development of ever fast train transport, the investigation of problems concerned with beam-soil interaction analysis became very important for the construction of safe tracks and vehicles. The issues analysed in this book are directed to the problems of dynamic behaviour of beam-soil structures, especially to the vibratory analysis of the soil response for the fast moving load. Two models: a load moving along a beam placed in a viscoelastic soil and a dynamically loaded beam resting on random foundation are analysed parametrically. A new method based on the wavelet expansion of functions in transform domain is applied to the analysis of these systems. This method uses analytical properties of the response functions and allows to alleviate numerical integration. It is especially useful in the cases of very complex dynamic systems leading to computational difficulties and numerical instabilities. The wavelet approach led to the extension of the class of solution for stochastic problems described in terms of correlation functions.
Piotr Koziol is currently an assistant professor at Koszalin University of Technology (Poland). His main subjects are dynamic systems analysis and approximation theory. He got MSc in mathematics at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow (Poland) and he did his PhD in wavelet-based wave propagation analysis at Brunel University in London (UK).
