Change in the health care industry is constant and Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH) has undergone many changes over the past few years. Indicators such as increased sick time, increasing tensions between union and management, an increase in the number of professional responsibility forms filed, staff accepting positions elsewhere, and significant numbers of vacancies, suggest that not all staff have coped well with these changes. Developing resiliency will strengthen the organization by lessening the current negative impact of organizational changes and improve its ability to adapt to the new challenges ahead. The study asked participants to discuss the coping mechanisms they have employed.
Mr Bagri has M.A. in Leadership and Training and undergraduates degrees in Health Sciences and Business. He is currently working a Director of Services and Operations at an Urban Canadian Hospital. He has been a part of many healthcare restructuring efforts and seen first hand the impact it has on frontline employees.
