This book is based on the author´s Doctorate of Education Thesis. The book establishes the relationship between teacher appraisal and the day to day duties of teachers, the extent to which teacher appraisal can lead to improvements in the teaching and students´ learning process, and how it addresses the staff development needs of teachers. This book offers a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of teacher appraisal - what it is; why it matters; and how it is carried out. Because of its practical orientation, educational managers, educators and students preparing to work in educational institutions will find the book an invaluable resource, and can use it to develop and improve their appraisal skills. An important tenet discussed is how teacher appraisal can enhance staff development. Although the book is about teacher appraisal in Botswana, it can easily be adapted to various contexts as most of the concepts are generic. Chapter One of the book covers the background of teacher appraisal in Botswana; what teacher appraisal is and why the topic is necessary. Chapter Two discusses international literature on teacher appraisal.

Pedzani Perci Monyatsi, a Doctor of Education graduate from the University of South Africa taught in many secondary schools in Botswana as a teacher and school head.
