Using HIV and AIDS prevention as a case study, Kemigisa examines the influence of social networks on health promotion in Uganda. In an easy to read style, she presents another look at the contexts in which social networks are used for the prevention of HIV and AIDS. In the lived experiences of the young, old, men and women alike, one sees a social cultural context of social networks that is critical in contemporary responses to the prevention of HIV and AIDS, relevant to different settings. The thesis presents a case for a reappraisal of the public health system given the role of social networks in this important public issue. Beyond role relations, the author suggests easy to adapt frameworks that could guide the development of health promotion interventions along a social networks perspective.
