The book deals with livelihood struggles of urban poor for making a living in the informal sector of developing countries within Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. The text mainly focuses on the issues of livelihood, informal sector and rural to urban migration in Nepal and how these issues are linked to development discourse. It explores that with increasing population pressure at the household level, increasing socio-economic disparities between people and communities, disparities between urban and rural areas, unemployment, unequal land ownership and existing conflicts have resulted in livelihood vulnerability in the rural areas of Nepal. Focusing on the issues relating to urban informal sector, livelihood, poverty and development, this book will be useful to those who are interested to look at urban informal economies in development discourse particularly working within the field of urban livelihoods of developing countries. Throughout this book, the author draws his own experience in order to offer a personal glimpse into informal sector s realities of the urban areas of developing countries with particular focus of Kathmandu.
