The present book deals mainly with the phenomenon of escarpment that takes place on beaches after applied artificial replenishment schemes with marine aggregates. From geologists or coastal engineers to individuals that use the beach for recreation a cliff, at the backshore of renourishmed beaches, has been reported. This scarp is a major defect of maybe the most favourable soft engineering technique against coastal erosion nowadays. The present investigation sheds light on the Nature of this formation. Different analyses, including X-ray Diffractometry, Elemental analysis, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Isotope analysis and other methods reveal that cementation takes place within the cliffs mass. The responsible cementing agents are traced and identified. The analysis starts with a general detailed description of basic sediment properties and of different relevant process. The technology and the methodology used is described in detail, while for the best representation of notions a nice three dimensional (3D) figure series, of general sedimentological interest, has been produced.
