Over the last few years, entrepreneurs among Malaysian people has increased due to government policy to instill the spirit of entrepreneurship among its citizen. The government has been offering many programmes and supported by the availability of funding and infrastructure facilities to start a new venture or to enlarge the existing one. However, the Kadazandusun participation is less successful. Previous studies found that entrepreneurs are motivated by their personal characteristics (such as need for achievement, locus of control, tolerance for ambiguity, innovativeness and risk-taking propensity) in their decision to initiate new venture. The study among Kadazandusun people in Sabah, Malaysia was conducted and the result provides strong support for need for achievement to predict the initiation of new venture. The result should help the government and other agencies to develop characteristics that motivate people to become an entrepreneur.
