This study was conducted to understand the emerging phenomenon of international teachers teaching in the US public schools. The findings revealed important social and professional differences between international teachers and their American counterparts. This research also identified intervening factors explaining the challenges and strengths of the international teachers, in addition to contextual reasons such as student and school profile. The strengths and challenges of international teachers shaped the nature of their interactions with the students, other teachers, parents, and administrators. This book could be especially useful for both practicing international teachers and potential international teacher candidates; for administrators and colleagues of international teachers; for the administrators who are planning to hire international teachers; for teacher training programs and lastly for policy makers.
Yunus Kumek studied physics and education and received his PhD from SUNY at Buffalo. He has dedicated his efforts to establish schools with science and college prep emphasis in urban cities. In this book, Dr. Kumek combines qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze and understand a new trend in inner city schools: international teachers.
