Silk is the queen of textiles and it is one of the perfect and most adored natural fibre discovered todate by mankind.Silk is spun by silkworm Bombyx mori in the form of cocoon. India and China are the leading silk producers in the world.Silkworm is susceptible to many pathogens.Viral diseases cause more than 40% crop loss. Infectious Flacherie virus causes viral flacherie in silkworm. The pathogen is a single stranded RNA virus which infects cytoplasm of goblet cells. The pathogenicity of the virus enhances in synergism with bacteria during secondary infection. Infectious Flacherie virus has poorly been studied in countries like India and china. The molecular characterization of Flacherie virus from India is reported. The status of research review on the infectious flacherie virus in Japan, China and India is reviewed. The reasons for crop losses due to infectious flacherie virus is evaluated.
