This study discusses mother-daughter disputes scripted for the American TV series Gilmore girls. The prime purpose of the study is to investigate the speech actions of mother-daughter conflicts through screen language and examine how and to what extent interpersonal relationships on screen may represent or mirror real relationships. As the thesis presented here is intended to investigate what the mechanisms and motivations of mother daughter disputes are, it has implications for not only conflict talk but intergenerational communication or family interaction in particular.
Magdalena Purska received a Bachelor´s degree in Methodology and Pedagogy at the Teachers´ Training College in Poland and a Master´s degree in English Literature and Linguistics at the University of Vienna. She is a passionate bookworm and a keen traveler.
