In this Book: Perhaps no other literary genre is as propagandistic as Zionist fiction. The artistic (de) merits of Zionist propaganda ´novels have not been treated as an independent subject by literary critics. This book tackles the emergence and evolution of the Jewish, and later Zionist, propaganda in sample English novels. The aim of Mr.Salem is not a historical account of Zionist fiction. Rather, his analytical approach emphasizes as much the way novelists use fiction for propaganda as the demystification of implicit political aims in the light of contemporary theory of propaganda to put them in their proper literary perspectives. In a survey embracing such writers as Dickens, Scott, Edgeworth, Disraeli,Eliot, Zangwill, Baratz, Koestler, Uris, Bellow,Dayan, Malamud, Spark and others Mr. Salem evaluates the four stages of the Zionist propaganda novel from 1817 to 1982 and their political objectives. This enables him to reach imperative conclusions that attract all those who are interested in fiction, the Jews, Zionism, the Holy Land, propaganda, the stereotyping of the Arabs, the Middle-East conflict and the interrelations among them all.
Ibrahim Ahmed Salem got his B.A. in English literature at the faculty of Arts, Mansura University,Egypt and obtained his M.A. at Minufiya University in 2004. He is now finishing a PH.D. comparing Jewish and Palestinian fiction in exile. He lives in Egypt and works now as a lecturer in English literature at King Saud University,Saudi Arabia.
