Spine modelling has been an interest of many researchers for the last a few decades. There are several approaches for spine modelling. In this book, different modelling techniques have been compared intensively. Different from traditional view ,this book focuses on stability approach. However, it is still possible to calculate joint reaction forces to evaluate biomechanical failures resulting in injuries. Thrustline theory is mostly used in civil engineering to analyse the stability of arch type bridges. In this book, it is applied to full spine to evaluate its stability. Spinal curvature is an important parameter for assessing stability, 20 male and 19 female subjects while they lift an object, were measured by using Spinal Mouse. This collected data is fed into a computer model based on thrustline theory. The model is composed of ligaments, muscles and vertebrae. Based on the stability results, new conceptual design alternatives for car loading are suggested.
Senay Mihcin gained her PhD from Loughborough University. She has double MSc in Mechatronics and Management Sciences. She has a BSc in Mechanical Engineering. After completing her post-doc in advanced safety investigations for pregnant women, she is working on kinematics of cervical spine as a research fellow at Leeds University.
