Amharic Oral Lyric Poetry in Raya´, an entertaining societal treasure, is a research work undertaken in Raya, Ethiopia. It gives an insight into the Rayans´ colorful culture, ideology,philosophy of life and lofty artistic creativity.With their oral lyric poetry, they express the depth of thier love for their loved ones;praise them in terms of beauty, deligence and virtues; and appreciate their environs and thier country. They also use it as an instrument for reflecting their political stance, both for appreciation and comment,for correcting deviant behavior within workmates or neighborhood, for motivation of work.During death, they celebrate the deceased with their poetry based on the quality of his work and his contribution in life. So, it can be said that ´Amharic Oral lyric Poetry in Raya´ is really a window for an easy access to the life of Rayan People in Ethiopia.

Tesfaye Mesele Zinabu has got his B.Ed in English Language and Literature in 1999 at Cotebe College of Teacher Education and his MA in Literature in English in 2007 at Addis Ababa University. He is a lecturer at Mekelle University. He is now pursuing his PhD study in Literature at Addis Ababa University.
