Taiwan in the Web of US Hegemony presents the evolution of an unequal relationship between Taiwan and the US from 1949 to 2005. It analyzes how Taiwan´s economy was transformed because of the US hegemony in the region. This book puts Taiwan within the US-led East Asia to investigate both Taiwan´s development experience and its strategic role in the region. It argues that Taiwan´s economic growth in the past and economic difficulties at present are highly related to the combination of Taiwan´s particular position, politically and geographically, and the various US policies at different times.
