This book focuses on the support, sacrifices and life world of families with adolescents achieving in sport. There are many challenges and not everyone will succeed. For parents the road might seem bumpy with many highs and lows. The investment, however, made in their children and the family as a whole, can be very rewarding and fulfilling. The family, and not only the coach, plays a major role in their reaching the ultimate level in sport. Yet family support often goes unnoticed. The author also looks at the life world of families of world-renowned sports stars in their formative years. The approach used in the guidelines to facilitate mental health for families with high achievers is psycho- educational. It developed from the need to help influence people without necessarily using therapy. It aims to be pro-active and to equip people before problems develop. This book can give valuable insight to all those associated with sport in any way.
