Mammalian monocytes consists of two major subsets based on their functions and their chemokine receptor expressions. The functional role of these subsets are currently unknown during liver fibrogenesis. Immunopathogenesis is an important epiphenomena which modulates the course of any injury or infection. In this experimental model of liver injury the author provided experimental evidences that the role of innate immune response which mainly consists of monocytes rapidly migrates to the site of liver injury and modulates the course of injury. Also the recruitment of these monocyte subsets are critically depends on the chemokine receptor-2.This scientific study for the first time provides, important clues about the role of innate immune cells especially the monocytes for liver fibrogenesis. Also this study opens up new windows for the future drug development for controlling liver fibrosis at the early stage.
Dr.Karlin Raja Karlmark is a Postdoctoral scientist working on innate immune cells especially on monocytes and their role in Liver fibrosis. He co-authored many research articles in several internationals scientific journals. Currently he has been working on to develope therapeutic targets to inhibit liver fibrosis.
