This book provides details of the lateral load resistance behavior of a full scale unreinforced masonry model building subjected to contained underground explosions. The explosions were designed to simulate a high amplitude short duration seismic ground motion. Test results indicate that as an alternate to expensive and small scale shake table tests, adequately designed underground explosions can be very conveniently used for testing full scale short period structures in an actual field environment. The book also provides valuable input on the seismic hazard zoning of the city of Peshawar in Pakistan, correlation between experimental and finite element based numerical model results, and the seismic performance of low rise unreinforced masonry buildings subjected to strong ground motions.
Qaisar Ali, a structural engineer by profession, is currently Professor and Director at the Earthquake Engineering Center, Khyber Pakhthunkhwa University of Engineering & Technology (KP UET) Peshawar, Pakistan.
