Socio-economic Issues in African Literature: The Case of Shona Fiction analyses how Shona fiction published between 1990 and 2006 conveys the social and economic issues in independent Zimbabwe. Using a multi-theoretical approach, the book discusses the writers´ visions by focusing on a wide range of pertinent issues which include; the re-visit to the African past, the gains of the liberation struggle, the emancipation of women, continued existence of poverty among contemporary Africans, the controversial land redistribution exercise in Zimbabwe as well as the HIV and AIDS scourge.
Godwin Makaudze is a full time lecturer and Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Great Zimbabwe University. He holds a DLitt et Phil in African Languages from UNISA, as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from Midlands State University. Godwin is interested in correcting the misrepresented image of Africa in literature and history.
