Poverty in third world is multidimensional. One of its major components is that of shortage of food. This book is believed to give opportunity to see the magnitude and causes of the problem of food insecurity in developing countries in general and Alamata Woreda of Southern Tigray, Ethiopia in particular. It tries to assess the various determinant factors that influence achievement of food security at household level. The book also gives an insight to the different forms of coping mechanisms that households revert to during food crisis. The different strategies and efforts by government and non-governmental organizations to overcome the problem of food shortage in the study area are also discussed. What is more, the book exposes factors such as resource depletion both at the household and community level which led the households in the study area to be more vulnerable to risks and food crisis. So, readers can benefit in sharing experiences of identifying factors that could affect food security status of households and strategies of overcoming of food insecurity.
