Since the terrorist attacks of September 11th., our society is struggling with fear and uncertainty. Safety and security are a concern not just for an organization but for our society as a whole. The better an organization is prepared to face a major crisis the easier it would be for them to implement a crisis-plan when needed. It is important to understand that adversity and crisis are a part in the development of a leader. ´Know Thyself´ becomes particularly real for a leader who wants to be effective. When the leader is aware of his leadership style: how he/she reacts when facing pressure or crisis, then the leader has found powerful tools when facing critical situations. When applied to our context, local leaders can use this material to compare themselves, not just with their own leadership style, but also noting how leaders in other sectors of our society have adapted their leadership styles to face different adversities. This book discusses the adaptive nature of leaders in the Central Valley of California in response to the terrorist attacks of September 11th.
