Monga is a Bengali term which means extreme poverty that prevails in North Bengal of Bangladesh. It affects the economy, livelihood, social bondage of the people of Monga area. Its consequences are responsible for the violation of human rights in that particular area. This study aims at identifying the reasons behind Monga and analyzing the impact of Monga on the human rights. It will serve as a guiding principle to the academicians, researchers, students, professionals, economists, human right activists and policy makers in understanding the root causes of Monga as well as the possible ways of reducing the Monga situation. Although this study has been conducted in Bangladesh, it will help the international researchers and professionals in conducting further research anywhere of the world.
Zelina Sultana is a Lecturer of Law at Daffodil International University, Bangladesh. She has completed LL.M & LL.B from the Department of Law, Rajshahi University, a leading public university in Bangladesh. She has attended a number of Human Rights workshops/symposiums and has research publications in national and international journals.
