The right to adequate food (RtF)is a human right of all people that emphasises freedom from hunger and malnutrition. It is internationally recognised by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural rights; both of which Uganda has ratified. This book assesses the RtF situation of slum dwellers of Banda Parish (one of the slums of Kampala City,Uganda)and shows that whereas Uganda is bound by international obligations on the RtF,slum dwellers are yet to realize this right. This is occuring against the background that the RtF is "fairly" protected by objectives XIV and XXII under the social and economic objectives of the 1995 Constitution of the Republic of Uganda. The assessment is based on agreed upon RtF indicators as reported in the project "Measurement Developments in the Realization of the Right to Food by Means of Indicators: The IBSA Procedure". This book is generally intended for policy makers, civil society organizations, UN agencies, other humanitarian agencies, academicians and all individuals involved in advocating for the human right to adequate food.
