Growth in agricultural production in the past was achieved through horizontal expansion but today there is little scope for horizontal expansion because of high population density. Hence, future increase in agricultural production could be achieved by increasing the productivity of labor and land and this is possible through the adoption of modern technology and usage of appropriate farm inputs. However,the practice of agricultural inputs application is low due to market constraints that reduce profitability of inputs use and this is one of the factors responsible for the gap between potential and actual agricultural yields.
