The roles of college students, parents, and institutions of higher education have changed over time. University administrators and faculty acknowledge the increased levels of parental involvement with students. The academic literature regarding parents´ involvement with their college students is limited. This book, therefore, provides a perspective of parental involvement through the voices of parents. The work investigates the parents´ perception of parental involvement with college students and how that involvement is different than that of their own parents. The essence of parental involvement with students is viewed through college selection, campus contact, and care/guidance. Four themes describing the perception of parental involvement emerged from the research. These themes include communication, development and adjustment, satisfaction, and influences. Understanding the perception of parental involvement and parental expectations will enable college administrators, faculty, and staff to better communicate with their college families. Therefore, helping institutions improve services for students and their families.
