In spite of the extensive research on the issue, the pragmatic aspect of conceptual metaphor has been long time neglected. This book, however, contributes to the existing conceptual metaphor theory by studying how different types of poetic discourse structure constrain the activation of conceptual metaphor in the reader´s mind. Conceptual and propositional analyses are employed to identify the common conceptual metaphor in poetic texts and the type of the texts´discourse structure. The accessibility of the underlying conceptual metaphor in three types of discourse is explored by exposing readers to poetic texts. The study should shed some light on the ongoing debate whether conceptual metaphor theory can be applicable to literary text and should be especially useful to professionals and students in the field of Cognitive Linguistics and anyone interested in cognitive approach to literary discourse.
