This book analyzes the importance of oral literature and the problems involved in collection and analysis of oral literature data. Oral narratives of the Lamu people, who are a sub-group of the Swahili, are analyzed in terms of language use. The language is analyzed at four levels: phonology, lexis, syntax and semantics. This book also explains various types of narratives in Lamu community. It is highly recommended for scholars, students and general readers.

Rayya Timammy PhD: Studied Linguistics and Literature in Kiswahili at University of Nairobi, Kenya. She is a specialist in oral and written literature in Kiswahili. She is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Nairobi in the Department of Linguistics and Languages and also an Associate Dean in the Faculty of Arts.
