Jules Verne, geb. 1828 in Nantes, studierte Jura, schrieb aber bereits Theaterstücke und Erzählungen. Sein erster Erfolgsroman ´Fünf Wochen im Ballon´ erschien 1863. Seine großen Romane waren von Anfang an Bestseller. Als neuer Mythenmeister und Klassiker ist er der Begründer der modernen Science-fiction-Literatur. Jules Verne starb 1905 in Amiens.
