This is a personal book, written to the readers and persons interested in child development and more so those interested in parental involvement in children´s education. The author focuses on the role of fathers in children´s early literacy as the first teachers of the child. The text approaches children´s early literacy and learning through social development theory and Holdaway´s theory of literacy development both of which argue that intellectual development must be explained as a product of social interaction between the child and the adult. However, fathers and mothers interact with children differently and their influence in children´s education is different. The author lets her voice come through as she tells of her research findings and shares her insight on fathers´ involvement in children´s early literacy development. The text is meant for community mobilizers on issues related to early childhood, departments of education, schools and fathers and teachers will find the book significant in mobilizing fathers on their role in enhancing early literacy development through direct and indirect involvement in literacy.
