Availability and access to learning materials by students in institutions of higher learning is a challenge in Kenya just like in most African countries. Important factors that come into play include authorship issues, market considerations, production, marketing costs, distribution mechanisms and logistics. A critical component that is sometimes over looked is the existence of an organization that is willing to venture into the business of higher education publishing.This book looks at the university press as the institution best placed to provide materials for use by students and faculty. Using Kenya´s oldest University press, the University of Nairobi Press as a case study, the book explores challenges university presses face in production marketing and distribution of publications and opportunities available for the enhancement of academic publishing in the country.
