This book provides an engaging perspective on Nawal el Saadawi´s novel, God Dies by the Nile. Nawal el Saadawi´s works have been praised for their bold representation of feminist issues. Working within a post-feminist stylistic framework, this book gives an insight into how el Saadawi depicts the inhibiting customs that oppress both peasant men and women in the Arab world. This linguistic approach within a feminist background is meant to bridge the gap found in the purely thematic approaches to el Saadawi´s work. In Re-Reading God Dies By The Nile: A Post-Feminist Perspective, Ibrahim explains how the novel´s characterization and narrative techniques create contradictions which belie the novel´s outwardly feminist outlook. The book has chapters on the representation of women in texts, narrative strategies and the role of religion in the lives of the characters in the novel. It has also given full- fledged treatment to Halliday´s transitivity system in analysing power relations in discourse.
