This book focuses on factors affecting the provision of affordable housing for low-income groups in Bishoftu, one of the cities in Ethiopia. The principal objective of the book is to assess the major factors which affect the provision of affordable housing for low-income group in Bishoftu. Major findings discussed in this book indicate that among the houses provided for owner or rental purposes by different providers only the Kebele housing units are affordable by the low-income groups. Low level of income, lack of access to housing finance and residential land due to down payments and fees, and cost of construction material, labor, and infrastructure are the main factors affecting the housing provision. On the other hand, increase of demand due to regulations favoring the non-residents and population growth resulted in high housing prices out of the reach of the poor. However, the housing standards set by the municipality do not have direct influence on the affordability of the poor.
