This book discusses the effects of male labour migration on the rural women of Central Nyanza, Kenya, during the colonial era. The effect of male labour migration has persisted til modern day Central Nyanza and therefore it is important to establish its origins and also record its effects particularly on women who continue to form the bulk of the population in rural parts of Kenya. This situation applies to most parts of Kenya and therefore such a study can be replicated. The book is recommended to scholars at all levels of study in History, and particularly African History, as well as those interested in the socio-economic study of African women. Dr. Mildred A. J. Ndeda (Ph.D.) is a senior Lecturer in the Department of History, Kenyatta University, Kenya, where she has taught for the last 25 years.
