Education is seen as a key component of Human Development as it enhances human capability, improves the quality of life and subsequently contributes to the growth of nations. In India the norms of education policy and programmes have lead to unequal schooling provisions across the states. Quality education is delivered only by a handful of institutions and the conditions of public funded schools are very dismal mainly in villages and in poor regions. Not many studies have gone in depth in identifying if there is any relationship between the availability of the educational facilities in the schools and socio-economic status of the students availing those facilities. In order to fill this gap, this study has tried to identify the interlinkages between educational facilities and socio-economic status of students. In doing so, different measurement indices have been developed. The study is intended to understand the need and gaps at local level. The outcome of the study can provide greater and in depth knowledge to the educational planner that could further guide them to become specific and more oriented towards policy formulation.
