This monograph is about the socio-economic and cultural effects of urban development project in Addis Ababa. The project is a mega infrastructure construction project that displaced households and business centers. It had put in place a fascinating highway designed to mitigate traffic congestion in the city core. It was also meant to enhance urban land use at the peri-urban areas. The study found out that although the road construction had successfully intercepted significant traffic, it had also brought considerable socio-economic and cultural disruptions. The project affected people however, devised certain coping mechanisms with the undesired effects. Adaptive responses vary based on the nature of the effects felt by the people. The study had also drawn theoretical and practical implications of the development project. It is hoped that this study will be useful to graduate students of sociology, social anthropology and students of social sciences who wish to examine the different aspects of development induced displacement
