Challenges of the 21st century of growing urbanisation are densification, concentration of resources and dealing with pollution. This study highlights the debate between centralised planning and increased densification against the "Garden City" decentralised concept. The new urban thinking is a set of sustainability agenda and the new environmentalism. This is also a set of new visions and aspirations from the government and the architects. This study also looks into how it founds the practical ground to carry out their visions and why it is difficult to realise the new vision. Sustaining our cities is to meet the needs of the present without comprising the ability of future generations. Sustainable solutions are workable solutions embodying ideals and aspirations that our future generation will be happy to inherit. Sustainability is as actions which balance the present with the future but also with the past. Sustainable development is development that delivers basic environmental, social and economic services to all without threatening the viability of the natural, built and social systems.
