Development planning is an essential component for rapid development in developing and emerging country. Despite its worldwide popularity, it is a much debated, hotly discussed and controversial subject among economists and development practitioners. The text book is derived from teaching materials developed by various scholars over the years to acquaint undergraduate students about the subject matter. The text book is appropriate to undergraduate students of economics department and organized under three chapters. Chapter one is designed to acquaint students with the concept and character of development planning, including its justification and relevance across space and time. It further assesses on controversies associated to its practice, and the observed shortcomings of planning practice. Chapter two discuss on common menu of development plans. Chapter three will further elaborate about governing principles and basic techniques of development planning.
Worked in various development projects for over a decade, obtained practical experience on planning, financing, execution, M&E, and impact assessment, I recently published a book on "Project Planning and Analysis" in 2010. Moving to academics I lecture on "Development Planning" to undergrads while having a PhD candidacy in Development Studies.
