This book deals with the impact of HIV/AIDS on Ethiopian Businesses, as approached from a managerial perspective. This approach has been adopted for its relevancy to managers in general. The book is perhaps the first in Ethiopia in its kind as HIV/AIDS is understood by many as merely a health problem. Many business people do not recognize its effects on business. However, their ignorance did not evade its impact. It is already guzzling the businesses´ profit, shrinking their productivity, mounting their cost, diverting productive resources, and affecting the market for products. Because it affects the key resource the human resources it affects everything of the organization. Major features of the book include that HIV infections mostly occur in productive people; transmission is increasing in Ethiopia; and lack of awareness can cause workplace conflict as well as mismanagement of employees. It also emphasizes that though managers are notionally aware that they should be concerned about HIV/AIDS and its impacts, they are not translating this notional awareness into any form of meaningful action plan. The book is suitable for managers, teachers, students, and policy makers.
