Over the last few decades, literary criticism and scholarship has changed so rapidly and expanded so multifariously. However, scholars have not yet paid a new insight in learning to read critically to older Spanish picaresque novels. Sometimes, these scholars neglect of the generic view may not be a case of will but of an unawareness, to the origin and distinct canons of the genre. Old Spanish picaresque novels of the 16th C. and early 17th C. can offer an endless supply of historical awareness and critical perspective of the origin and distinct features of the genre.Comprehending the literary conventions underpinned in the prototypes of the genre: Lazarillo de Tormes, Guzman de Alfarache and El Buscon, their continuity and discontinuity in the light of intertextuality are thoroughly scrutinized in this book.This book is essential to new and also to more experienced literary scholars who engaged in studying world literature from generic point of view.
