Productive Safety Net Programs (PSNP) are programs designed to support immediate and acute food needs at household level and extended effects on households´ livelihood assets promotion. PSNP in Ethiopia was presupposed in such a way that it offers employment opportunities in public works to active but food insecure households and direct support to those households who can not participate in public works. Out comes from the program in general and public works in particular, are expected to have long-run community level effects on food security. Many analysts of the program in turn agree that whatever it comes depends on the degree to which target people involve in the program and the quality and sustainability of the work products. The study in this book tried to assesses the practical experiences of Ethiopian Productive Safety net program from Boricah woreda community, Sidama zone. Sustainable livelihood approach was employed to look at household and community level effects of the program.
Samuel Jilo Dira graduated in BA in Sociology and MA in Regional and Local Development Studies(RLDS) from Addis Ababa University. He has been lecturer of Sociology and Anthropology and chair of department of Behavioral Sciences at Hawassa University. Currently, he is a PhD candidate at Washington State University, USA.
