This study of Security Council terminology and expressions has made no attempt to be comprehensive or meant to be so; however the current study has tried to make a cognitive map of the terms and expressions used in the SC resolutions. The study capitalizes on the broad literature on Contrastive Analysis. The sample analysis section incorporates concepts, insights and findings from socio-linguistics, pragmatics, lexical semantics and the growing interest in discourse analysis studies. The study adopts Toury´s DTS method. DTS is concerned with describing the translation process and the product without giving any judgment. Rather than attempting to evaluate the translation or to suggest alternative translation, the focus is on the correspondence between ST meaning and TT meaning. The selected samples are seven in number. They are carefully selected as they reflect the exact attributes of the SC discourse. Chapter 2 has tackled features of both political and legal discourse, concluding that SC resolutions are neither legal nor political. UN discourse has its own characteristics and features that stand as a synthesis created from legal and political discourse attributes.
