In the Horn of Africa sub region, despite the rhetoric the authoritarian governments of the region used substantial amount of the state resources and power to achieve regime security at the expense of their citizens´ political security. This has indeed not only put these countries in a state of political crises as a result of intrastate discord, but also erodes the political domain and curtailment of the political and democratic rights of the citizens in this area. By taking into consideration of the two key countries of the sub region, this monograph attempts to analyze the status of political security of the citizens of Ethiopia and Sudan. The study employed explanatory qualitative research methodology. The strategy used is multiple case studies based on comparative method to explore similarities of two cases. Significantly, the upshot this research identified is four common salient features in both states which reflected status of individual´s political security.
