The history of post-colonial Africa is marred with social and political injustices that writers in the region grapple with in a bid to prevent historical injustices from repeating themselves. Of major concern is how leaders (mis)use power to maintain leadership. It is the use of excessive power and violence by leaders that is particularly characteristic of Uganda´s history. This book is an investigation of violence in John Ruganda´s plays: The Floods and The Burdens which are set in Idi Amin´s dictatorial rule in Uganda. Carolyn examines Ruganda´s use of memory - both as a strategy to write violence and a space in which victims of violence confront their traumatic past. The book is recommended for university students who are interested in literary studies based on political and domestic violence in African history.
