Blurb Back ground the study aimed at examining the Participation of PWDs in Income Generating Activities (IGAs) in Northern Division Kabale District. A qualitative phemonological design was used to develop an in depth understanding of Participation of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).The researcher employed interview guides focused group discussion as the main instruments of data collection. 20 respondents were involved in the study including representatives of PWDs, service providers, community members and productive PWDs. The study investigated the Participation of PWDs in IGAs in Northern Division Kabale District, the involvement of PWDs in IGAs, Benefits of IGAs to PWDs, Challenges PWDs encounters in starting and managing IGAs, and Ways to improve Participation of PWDs in IGAs in the country. The findings of the study revealed that PWDs Involve in IGAs such as; Vocational trade, Business, Agriculture, and employment. Benefits include; self dependence, exposure, saving on the would be expenditure, attained basic needs, improved status, esteem and confidence. Challenges encountered include; Nature of disability, inadequate capital, lack of business and training and strategies.
The study revealed that PWDs engage in various income generating activities which include: Business,vocational trade, employment and agriculture as one way to maintain their livelihood and basic needs.Participation of PWDs in Income generating activities is very crucial in raising the status of PWDs in collaboration with all stakeholders.
