During pregnancy the genetic information is passed on through a series of chemical processes. Genetics alone do not explain how children will turn out; environmental conditions such as drug use, poor maternal health and nutrition, lack of social support and birth practices across cultures can negatively influence the well-being of the mother and fetus. Major issues need more concern during pregnancy; maternal preparation for birth, different traditional practices and the care taken, the support of the husband and community during pregnancy in relation to educational level and birth experience. Proper preparation for birth and support that a pregnant woman receives from the community is related significantly to her educational level. Birth experience in relation to different traditional practices and care taken during pregnancy indicates there is no significant influence. This book shows to which extent both parents should care, plan and prepare for pregnancy and for the husband to understand his role and responsibility in helping his wife during pregnancy. It also gives support to families and health practitioners to provide appropriate care and support for the pregnant woman.
