Mergers and acquisitions strategy is a well-known strategy adopted by companies who aim to gain high growth rate, strengthen competitive advantage and ease competition tension. It does not only transform company but also transform industry structure. There are numerous industries have been meaningfully impelled by M&A strategy such as bank industry, automotive industry and pharmaceutical industry. The companies in particular industry have different reasons to take up M&A strategy due to diverse factors such as nature of industry, action of rival and force from external party. The healthcare distributor industry is another industry that has been significantly driven by M&A strategy. Although characteristics of product and service are similar, the degree of the strategy is difference in each geographical market. This depends on the degree of pressures that firms face from business environment as well as scale of flexibility to use M&A strategy such as financial resource and regulation. Hence, it is important to recognise reasons of healthcare distributor to utilise the strategy, results of the strategy, and trend of mergers and acquisitions in near future.
