Among the shared causes of electoral violence in Africa are the perceived lack of independence of the electoral commissions, political greed, political repression, poverty, and incitement. However, there are also a number of unique features pertaining to each individual country in the region with regard to electoral violence. This could be attributed to each country´s unique political and economic history and reality. Quite clearly, electoral violence is phenomena whose causes and nature are, to a sizeable extent, shared among the African states. Media as pillar of democratic institution have great contribution in election process. However, media role during electoral violence can be both negative and positive .Ethiopia is a country with emerging democracy and multi ethnic homeland and the second most populous country in Africa. Ethiopia held democratic elections four times since 1991 and the third election which held in 2005 was sadly end up with post electoral violence. This book provides empirical data about the feature of democratic institutions and democratic elections, as well as nature and function of media in Ethiopia.
