In the cities of developing countries, there is a rapid rate of urbanization due to natural increase, migration and cities boundary expansions that results in scarcity of land, this situation is aggravated by globalization. Thus, urban land becomes very expensive and unreachable to meet the need of most urban dwellers. Due to these different kinds of tenure modalities existed. In urban Ethiopia land is legally owned by the public. However, different kinds of tenure modalities existed in cities, due to historical and political reasons. This book reveals different land and housing tenure systems with the corresponding property rights and the relationship between tenure and housing development. Recognizing the occurrence of different tenure types in the area is an input to a comprehensive, efficient and equitable urban land management. Therefore the analysis will help to abridge the knowledge gap in the area of land tenure, housing and development and specifically the government and professionals in relation to land and housing tenure. It will also be useful for anyone who has a plan to invest in Addis Ababa.
