This book examines the relevance of the concept of culture of poverty in explaining the nature, character and persistence of poverty among the rural poor in Ghana. It establishes that there are sufficient challenging socio-economic circumstances to justify a possible formation and transmission of a culture of poverty among the rural poor. The people are in an environment of multiple deprivations, multiple risk of becoming poor and persistently living in, and transmitting poverty to the younger and future generations.

Dr Stephen Afranie has been lecturing in Sociology in the University of Ghana since 2002.He has extensive experience in social research in areas such as HIV/AIDS and Health, Poverty and Rural Development, Child Labour, Youth and Gender issues, Education,Commercial Sex work, Orphaned and Vulnerable Children and Socio-economic impact assessment.
