Worldwide, gender discrimination has deteriorated the socio-economic and politico-cultural life of women just because of their gender, which remained to be the single main cause of inequity in many Third World societies. Therefore, this book- ´Gender and Socio-Cultural Practices´ presents how local level traditional customary social and cultural practices are deeply influenced by patriarchal assumptions and expectations and then ultimately remained to be the conventional governing socio-cultural instruments among the Majangir of Ethiopia. The book also explores socio-cultural practices such as matrimony types and payments and how they affect the well-being of women. The impact of wrong patriarchal attitudes on the right of women to parental property and decision making power is thoroughly examined. Women have little access to resources regardless of their immense contribution in the division of labor for production. This is a book for everyone or institution concerned with general problem of inequality based on gender. Particularly, it will be of invaluable help to professionals, development agents and practitioners engaged in filling gender gap in the Third World societies.
