With the growing demand for education, it is necessary to promote quality instruction through the individual and organizational development of all secondary school teachers. This book addresses the problems facing secondary education sector in Kenya in regard to staff development. The author, through his model for staff development for secondary school teachers, posits that quality instruction can be stimulated through an effective staff development program. In this regard, he interprets past trends, facts and events, and presents information concerning staff development and knowledge pertaining to education and the teaching profession. Professor Serem argues that educational administrators should understand their role and responsibility in staff development. He points out that participation in staff development should be voluntary and teachers who participate in it should be compensated with incentives which include salary increments and recognitions. This book is very resourceful to education policy makers, teacher trainers, teacher trainees and all educators in Kenya and elsewhere.
Professor D. K. Serem holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Administration of Higher Education from the University of Wyoming, U.S.A. He is a seasoned educational administrator and currently, the Principal of Narok University College, Kenya. He researches in Educational Leadership and Management.
